What requirements you'll need to be eligible

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Monitoring and Analysis
• Monitoring of database jobs and handling exceptions
• Monitoring the health of the database servers and storage/memory utilization
• Capacity planning and monitoring database growth

Development, Installation and Configuration
• Working with application developers in designing high-performance client-server and web applications.
• Designing and developing SQL scripts, stored procedures and triggers
• Installation and maintenance of database server, replication and client environments.
• Loading data into the database and extracting data for ad-hoc reports

High Availability, Backup and Recovery

• Review, enhance and develop backup and recovery strategies depending on SLA requirements.
• Design, implement and document Disaster Recovery strategies for critical business servers.
• Design and develop High Availability solutions including replication, clustering

Performance Tuning, Best Practices and Standards
• Query Optimization and Performance Tuning
• Troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues.
• Develop and enforce database standards and best practices including performance, security, monitoring policies and procedures.
Projects
• Independently manages projects and provides supervision of peer projects.

Subject Matter Expertise
• Demonstrates deep dive knowledge of four or more subject matter area

Documentation
• Documents architectures, processes, as-builts, projects, standards, and root cause analyses both in text and diagram
Summary of Secondary Responsibilities
• Maintains, monitors, and supports the Infrastructure environment.
• Provide Level 2 support of network/system service incidents to diagnose problems and resolve time-critical issues
• Installs, configures and maintains approved system hardware and software components.
• Collects and maintains tracking and configuration documentation and plans.
• Manages user access to systems or applications.
• Administers the set-up of new profiles, creates and updates access permissions and maintains user accounts for enterprise systems.

What you'll be doing on the job

This position leads database design and planning as well as directing and developing the direction of database operations activities. The engineer in this position is expected to use his/her experience with data architecture and management to develop and scale SQL databases based on their organization’s needs. This role also independently manages projects and provides supervision of peer projects in database design. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles. The engineer in this position is also expected to assist in the following day-to-day IT infrastructure operations. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
